Dear Baldwin Park High Community,
We want to continue providing transparency and updates regarding the ongoing process surrounding the future of the Braves mascot and logo following the passage of California Assembly Bill 3074.
Throughout this school year, Baldwin Park High School students, staff, and Associated Student Body (ASB) representatives have worked diligently to explore all available options while thoughtfully considering the impact this process has on our school community and traditions.
As part of this process, students and staff have continued exploring opportunities for additional support and partnership conversations with nearby tribes, as outlined within state law, in hopes of preserving the Braves name and legacy whenever possible.
At the same time, and in alignment with state timelines and requirements, a parallel process also began to proactively explore an alternative mascot option should tribal support not be secured within the timeframe established by the state.
This alternative mascot process was led through student committees and ASB procedures consistent with school guidelines. More than 110 mascot ideas were initially submitted by students and narrowed through surveys, discussion, and student voting.
During today’s student rally, one potential mascot option, the Bruins, was unveiled as part of that process.
At this time, no final decision has been made, and no official changes have gone into effect. We continue to explore conversations, meetings, and partnerships related to preserving the Braves name while also responsibly preparing for all possible outcomes required under California law.
We understand how meaningful this process is to generations of Braves past and present. While the future remains under review, one thing will always remain true — the pride, spirit, traditions, and legacy of Baldwin Park High School will continue to live on through our students, staff, alumni, and community.
